Great colleges to work for in 2012
Of the five Virginia colleges that made the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work for in 2012, three were community colleges. From a report on public radio station WVTF:
In its fifth annual survey, the Chronicle of Higher Education talked with nearly 47,000 people at about 300 accredited institutions with an enrollment of at least 500. About 20,000 of the people responding were faculty members, about 18,000 were professional staff, and 8,500 were administrators. The poll included questions about compensation and benefits, collaborative governance, confidence in senior leadership, diversity, facilities, job satisfaction, career development programs, respect and appreciation, the tenure process, work/life balance, the teaching environment and relations between faculty and supervisors.
The Chronicle also looked at demographic data and workplace policies before issuing a list of the 103 best colleges to work for. Those scoring especially high across many categories were named to the honor. Four Virginia schools made that list: George Mason, Old Dominion, Blue Ridge and Southside Virginia community colleges. Lord Fairfax Community College was also named a great place to work.
Congratulations to Blue Ridge, Southside, and Lord Fairfax!
