OER Degree Initiative Webinar | March 10 @ 3pm
Happy Open Education Week!
There’s a lot happening this week in the world of open education and open educational resources, and it’s happening all over the world, from institutions across North America as well as Europe, Asia, and the global south. You can check out all of the exciting events scheduled for Open Education week on the website: http://www.openeducationweek.org/.
I do want to draw attention to one event that may be of particular interest to Virginia’s community colleges. A few weeks ago at the annual DREAM conference, Achieving the Dream (ATD), a national, nonprofit organization that supports evidence-based institutional improvement, announced a 3-year, OER Degree Initiative Grant to support the development of OER Degrees at 20-30 community colleges in the US and Canada. Proposals are due soon, on April 8th, 2016. Selected colleges will receive grants of up to $100,000 to develop new OER degrees. Community college systems with at least 3 participating colleges are eligible as well, for an increased grant award. Technical assistance, evaluation, and community-building support provided by partner organizations are built into the grants at no cost to awardees.
ATD has scheduled a webinar for Thursday, March 10 at 3pm EST to share details about this exciting initiative, introduce the partner organizations (Lumen Learning, SRI International, and CCCOER), and answer questions from participants interested in submitting a proposal. The webinar is free, but you will need to register to participate. Use the link below to sign up:
I encourage you to share the webinar information, as well as the Open Education Week website, with your colleagues, particularly your administrative and institutional leaders.
