Universal Design for Learning provides a conceptual method for designing instruction for all learners. While accessibility is often viewed in terms of what needs to be changed in a course or environment to meet a specific need, universal design works to create a better understanding of how learning environments can be built to satisfy the needs of all learners from the beginning. This session will further discuss what universal design is, how it can be used in online courses, how it connects with culturally responsive teaching, and provide some general guidelines on how to implement universal design in your learning environments. To be best prepared for this session, come with a module or unit from your course in mind for which you would like to apply universal design.
