Canvas Tech Tip #9: Respondus* Monitor Settings

The recent Ohio Court Case, (Olgetree v Cleveland State University), ruled that the University homegrown proctoring tool with “room scan” was a 4th amendment violation of student rights.  Please note that this is a narrow ruling only affecting that one University.  The judge did not find that vendor tools, including Respondus, violate student’s 4th amendment rights. Vendors were not named as defendants.  However, this ruling may make us wary of online proctoring tools scanning student private spaces.

In Respondus Monitor, faculty are able to TURN OFF the room scan (called Environmental Check).  This video will show you the steps required to turn it off.  It is found within the Startup Sequence options.
